This week, primary school kids at Gainsborough State School started the year in a brand-new facility built by Wiley’s specialist education team.
The team worked non-stop over the school break to deliver a building comprised of eight general learning areas (GLAs), outdoor learning spaces, teachers’ prep rooms and multipurpose collaborative spaces spread over two floors. And this week, that junior building is has been officially opened.
The Wiley team arrived at the green field site in April. A suspended concrete deck was poured within six months, and we completed internal fit outs, painted walls, and tested the electrical work two months after that. We then completed handover by January 20, so the building could be utilised for the 2023 school term.
It’s the 16th school project awarded to Wiley in the past few years. Other examples include Ferny Grove State High School’s three-story learning facility and Indooroopilly State School’s 16-classroom facility. We’re also currently delivering new GLA buildings for Goodna Special School and Waterford State School.
“There’s so many people to thank as projects like this require a cast of thousands,” says Tom Wilson, Wiley Operations Manager. “But obviously the Queensland Department of Education and Ridgemill Project Management have been great partners and we’re excited to continue the collaboration.”
